Commenting on her New York debut, the New York Times said, “Nachiko Maekane’s Marimba Recital at Carnegie Recital Hall was an unusual and exciting event.....  Throughout Miss Maekane displayed a level of virtuosity that was often astounding. She was fascinating to watch, seemingly incapable of error, she struck the marimba with feline grace; the four-octave marimba seemed an extension of her arms.  Miss Maekane’s ability to handle three or more mallets at a time gives her the capacity of create dense contrapuntal textures with ease..... remarkable artistry.”

Nachiko Maekane was the winner of the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Holland. She has appeared in recitals, lectures and broadcasts throughout the United States, Japan and Europe, including the Holland Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Pro Musica Nova Bremen (Germany), the Festival of New American Music (Sacrament,CA), the Horizonte Festival (Berlin, Germany), and Tokyo Summer Festival.
Miss Maekane was chosen to join the Affiliate Artists Inc., to provide week-long residencies in participating American towns and cities.
